SKATE AT SCHOOL

〰️

SKATE AT SCHOOL 〰️

Similar to other sports, health benefits are obviously correlated with participating in a physical activity. Skateboarding health benefits are slightly different than those of common youth sports like football, soccer, and basketball. Skateboarding offers an array of advantages including coordination, pain tolerance, stress relief, precision, reflexes and patience.

  • Coordination – Skateboarding improves hand, eye, leg and feet coordination. When skateboarding, you need to alter your movements so you skate smoothly and accurately.

  • Pain Tolerance – Other sports improve your pain tolerance, but learning how to skateboard includes constantly falling, tripping, cutting your knees and elbows, etc. Believe it or not, this helps to improve your tolerance and build up resilience.

  • Stress Relief – Stresses consume people, even kids, all the time. Skateboarding is an avenue to relieve some of those stresses or frustrations.

  • Precision – Skateboarding takes a lot to pick up on. You are constantly adjusting weight from one direction to another, switching your speed, and, when good enough, perfecting tricks.

  • Reflexes – This one ties together with coordination. When falling or stopping quickly, you need to have quick reflexes to brace yourself or prevent a collision from happening. You learn quickly that running into a railing is not ideal.

  • Patience – Skateboarding, like other sports, requires an immense amount of patience. You will not be the next Tony Hawk after your first time on the board. Falling countless times, missing that tricky bend, and hitting that awesome trick will test your patience time after time.

FAQ

Do I need my own Skateboard and Helmet?

No, you can hire them for $5, you can add this onto your session when booking via the scheduling link.

(Term sessions have free equipment hire)

Where we recommend you buying your Skateboard, Helmet & Pads:

Our go-to Skate shops are OCD Skate Shop and FAST TIMES

Our good mates from Techno & Co are a local board brand that supply the perfect boards for starting your skateboarding journey!

What ages do you coach?

We typically recommend starting no younger than 4 years old, as parents ourselves we know too well that a younger one’s attention span isn’t all that long!

There’s also no age too old either, so if you’re 70 and want to start, we’d love to shred with you!

How long does a session go for?

Private Lessons: 1 hour

Beginners: 1 hour

Intermediates & Advanced : 1.5 hours

Her/They Night & Men’s Night : 2 hours - 3 hours

What if I don’t have a waiver filled out?

You can find one here: WAIVER

Please be aware the parent or guardian of the child MUST be the one filling out the form

*over 18’s can fill out their own waiver

You do not need to provide another waiver if you have previously filled out one.

Can I watch my child during Group Sessions? Our students achieve more in their sessions when they can focus on the teacher in a controlled space, for this reason, sessions are not open for viewing and parents/siblings will be asked not to enter the Skatepark. Parents will be welcomed for the first session, to meet their child's coach and to ensure students are comfortable in their new surroundings. We kindly ask if you do need to stay please stay OFF the Skatepark floor. We also understand that children may be a bit wary of leaving parents, so please don't ever feel you can't come in if your child needs you, Tommy and I are parents ourselves and would never want any child to feel uneasy, so if you need to attend sessions with your child and sit back and watch then please do. Every child is different and we completely respect that.

Terms and Conditions / Group Session - Term Sessions

We appreciate your understanding as most sessions are at capacity it can be difficult to offer make-up sessions without disrupting our sessions, so we ask that you to email us if you are unable to attend a session, and where we can we will provide a make-up session (We are happy to credit any missed sessions into the next term, or holiday programs)
